The main thing is to avoid salt and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated some tips are: Choose fresh foods.
Avoid adding salt at the table. Use herbs and spices liberally.
Limit canned soups, frozen dinners and entrees and vegetables with sauces. Choose "low-sodium" products. You may rinse canned foods with water.
Reduce your intake of bacon, sausage, hot dogs and luncheon meats such as corned beef, pastrami, bologna, ham, processed turkey and salami.
Avoid smoked, pickled and cured foods.
Reduce your calories by choosing low-fat foods and eating smaller portions.
Increase dietary fiber. Try to get 20-35 grams of fiber daily.
Eat at least 4-5 servings a day of whole fresh fruit and 4-5 servings a day of vegetables. A serving is approximately 1/2 cup cooked or 1 cup raw fruit or vegetable, or 1 small piece of fruit.
Eat citrus fruit 3 times a week for potassium and fiber.
Eat nuts, seeds, dried beans and peas at least 4 times a week for potassium, magnesium and fiber.
Eat more potatoes, tomatoes and bananas for potassium.
Eat whole grains and whole grain products for fiber and magnesium.
I’m a kidney stone producing machine and just found out what triggers the deficiency on citric acids and overproduction of calcium in my body.
Urologist prescribed a high blood pressure drug called Hydrochlorothiazide (I have low blood pressure) to reduce the production of calcium and a citric acid supplement I’m really not sure as if I should take this. I have to inject myself with B12 on a monthly basis which I need because I can’t produce it anymore myself and found out that this reduces the citric level. Then I came across Hypothyroidism and wonder if that is the reason for the high calcium production? Does anyone have suggestions on how I should approach the treatment or know about natural ways to get this in control? I do a low oxalate diet and avoid foods triggering my symptoms.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic and is often the first step in lowering blood pressure in someone who is newly diagnosed with high blood pressure. I would follow your physician’s suggestions on care rather than trying to treat it yourself. You can also try holistic methods but in conjunction with your physician’s recommendations. Also, let your doctor know what herbs/supplements that you plan on taking so that he can verify whether there might be a problem with interactions between the substances. Sometimes, a low oxalate diet does not stop the kidney stones and medications may be needed. And, dehydration is a common cause of kidney stones so make sure your daily water intake is high.

I have a seriously ill family member who is currently experiencing his blood pressure rising to dangerous levels when he gets up which causes blackouts. Does anyone know what causes a rise in blood pressure when you get up he currently just had a MRI but I would like to know where to look on the net. Most things state that your blood pressure drops when rising.
Thanks alot!
Thanks for your answer but that is why I am having problems searching for this everyone is assuming that it is low. He blackouts and his pressure is tested and it is rising drastically.
This can happen with exertion. Blood pressure changes during the day. It is lowest as you sleep and rises when you get up. It also can rise when you are excited, nervous, or active. The heart beats faster on exertion, and pumps out more blood. After lying down, the body must make an almost instant adjustment in BP to supply the brain with blood. To do this blood vessels in the abdomen and legs constrict and the heart rate goes up. If there is a delay in this happening it can cause dizziness and yes even blackouts if the delay is longer.
My guess is that this is a side-effect of the illness.
My blood pressure is a bit too high. I know it comes from smoking and being overweight. My systolic reading usually runs from 128-138, and the diastolic is 89-99.
I have not been to the doctor, because I do not want to go on medicine. I’m going to try and lower my blood pressure through natural methods such as losing weight and to stop smoking.
Is what I am doing dangerous? Do I really need to go on medicine for my blood pressure?
Thanks!
Your BP is borderline and a little beyond but you can reduce it without meds right now. No smoking, no salt or no added salt to your diet, no diet soda (it is loaded with sodium (salt) regular soda has salt also but not as much, reduce caffeine intake, reduce any stress, exercise, no fast foods, they are loaded with salt. Drink lots of water to flush salt from your system. Right now the Dr may just give you a menu of foods to follow and a fluid pill to take everyday to get your BP down. They only put you on pills when diet and fluid pills won’t keep it down. What you are doing right now is not dangerous but if you don’t get it down on your own see your Dr. High BP is called the silent killer for a reason so you have to get it down.

Signs and symptoms
==================
Hypertension is usually found incidentally - “case finding” - by healthcare professionals during a routine checkup. The only test for hypertension is a blood pressure measurement. Hypertension in isolation usually produces no symptoms although some people report headaches, fatigue, dizziness, blurred vision, facial flushing, transient insomnia or difficulty sleeping due to feeling hot or flushed, and tinnitus during beginning onset or prior to hypertention diagnosis.
Malignant hypertension (or accelerated hypertension) is distinct as a late phase in the condition, and may present with headaches, blurred vision and end-organ damage.
Hypertension is often confused with mental tension, stress and anxiety. While chronic anxiety and/or irritability is ociated with poor outcomes in people with hypertension, it alone does not cause it. Accelerated hypertension is ociated with somnolence, confusion, visual disturbances, and nausea and vomiting (hypertensive encephalopathy).
