My blood pressure is a bit too high. I know it comes from smoking and being overweight. My systolic reading usually runs from 128-138, and the diastolic is 89-99.
I have not been to the doctor, because I do not want to go on medicine. I’m going to try and lower my blood pressure through natural methods such as losing weight and to stop smoking.
Is what I am doing dangerous? Do I really need to go on medicine for my blood pressure?
Thanks!

You first of all need a doctor to assess your readings, this may require a 24 hour monitor to make a formal and reliable diagnosis. Ignoring this is pretty much hiding your head in the sand and hoping it will go away!

Being no more than your ideal weight, taking regular exercise and reducing salt all help to reduce blood pressure. However if you have established hypertension this will not fix it. Left untreated this would increase your stroke and heart attack risks and potentially damage your eyes and kidneys.

Eddie was suffering from horrible SHOULDER PAIN, that interfered with every activity in his life. Nothing short of anti-inflammatory meds and pain killers could help. He also experienced neck and mid-back pain. After educating him on what only makes sense, I showed him that the problems in his neck were also leading to his High Cholesterol, and his High blood pressure!
Few short months, he is functioning better and his shoulder and neck pain are gone, and for the first time in decades he has Normal Cholesterol and Normal Blood Pressure! HIS LIFE IS CHANGED!
Sounds like you? or someone you know?

I normally don’t have high blood pressure but since I have had this massive headache for a few days that no pill will cure, I got my blood pressure checked at the pharmacy. It was 136/100. Is it high because of the headache or did the headache cause it? I have got it checked with my GP before but it is always fine when I get it checked there. When I stand up it is higher than sitting and I know when I stand up it is as if my head is going to explode and I can hear my heartbeat in my ears at night sometimes. Is this all related to blood pressure problems? I need honest helpful answers here, only answer if you can help. I am 42 and both my parents have high blood pressure, my mothers is really really high.

Don’t fool around with high blood pressure. Go to the doctor. My son was only 16 when he first got high blood pressure. He had a heart attack at 36. See a doctor. High blood pressure runs in our family, too.

For my final science project, I am taking the blood pressure of 6 students, three males, and three females. I hope to conclude whether the students blood pressure is higher in the morning before school, or after school in the afternoon. I made a prediction that it will be higher after school, when they are relieved that the day is over.
My only issue is, that I have to tell how it applies to science. Does anyone have any idea of how blood pressure would apply to science?

Well high blood pressure (hypertension) is responsible for an increased risk of heart disease, among other things.

eat a healthy diet, get exercise and take meds if you need them!

Is there an alternative, more natural way to lower blood pressure? (non-pill-popper)
Also, will taking the medication prescribed cause the body to be dependent on the medicine? If I begin to take them, then stop taking it, will it do more harm than good?

You could try adding more fish to your diet. I prefer to take Omega 3 from pure fish oil in capsule form since I do not prefer the taste of fish.

BEST WISHES!

I went to a clinic and they told me for my age(18)my blood pressure should be at 120-80,mine is between 140-148-80,my grandfather on my mom side had diebetes and my mom has it.There both kinda big and im really skinny. The nurse was sayin it’s probaly genetics. How can i bring it down?

exercise more and eat less salty foods. also, try not to stress out or get mad (if you have a temper).. things like that can cause high blood pressure.

A special chiropractic adjustment can significantly lower high blood pressure, a placebo-controlled study suggests.

“This procedure has the effect of not one, but two blood-pressure medications given in combination,” study leader George Bakris, MD, tells WebMD. “And it seems to be adverse-event free. We saw no side effects and no problems,” adds Bakris, director of the University of Chicago hypertension center.

Eight weeks after undergoing the procedure, 25 patients with early-stage high blood pressure had significantly lower blood pressure than 25 similar patients who underwent a sham chiropractic adjustment. Because patients can’t feel the technique, they were unable to tell which group they were in.

X-rays showed that the procedure realigned the Atlas vertebra — the doughnut-like bone at the very top of the spine — with the spine in the treated patients, but not in the sham-treated patients.

Compared to the sham-treated patients, those who got the real procedure saw an average 14 mm Hg greater drop in systolic blood pressure (the top number in a blood pressure count), and an average 8 mm Hg greater drop in diastolic blood pressure (the bottom blood pressure number).

None of the patients took blood pressure medicine during the eight-week study.

“When the statistician brought me the data, I actually didn’t believe it. It was way too good to be true,” Bakris says. “The statistician said, ‘I don’t even believe it.’ But we checked for everything, and there it was.”

Bakris and colleagues report their findings in the advance online issue of the Journal of Human Hypertension.
