Does this mean that if you are taking these drugs which artificially and not always effectively, lower your blood pressure and blood fat levels, that you can not eat the wonderful gift of the gods that is the grapefruit?
As far as fat levels are concerned, another study found that a healthier diet is more effective than drugs at reducing high cholesterol levels and that GPs should giving dietary advice before handing out drugs.
It has been quoted time and time again, and the more I read and research the more I find that there is abundant truth in the saying If the doctors of today do not become nutritionists, the doctors of tomorrow will be nutritionists.
Lets take a look at the humble grapefruit which is causing these medications such trouble. It is a member of the citrus family along with the orange and its varieties (Satsuma, tangerine, mandarin etc) lemons and limes. It is commonly used in weight loss diets and for those who are slimming as it is said to help your body to break down fats in your body so you can get rid of them more easily. Not only is it high in vitamin C and A, potassium, Calcium and phosphorus, but grapefruits contains unique plant compounds that reduce insulin levels, which in turn promotes weight loss. They are a good source of fibre and water. It can be used to relive flu and scanty urination, and aids digestion, fevers and fatigue. There is also evidence to suggest that due to its effect on insulin levels, it can aid diabetic symptoms.
Now if you can give me clear evidence that you should continue to take these artificial drugs in preference to the health benefits that can be derived from the addition of grapefruits to your diet, along with plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, essential fatty acids, clean water, moderate exercise and the exclusion of smoking, foods high in saturated fatty, refined processed fried foods and refined sugars then I would be very interested to see it.
Your body is made up of what you put in it, and the better the nutrient value of the things you put in it, the easier it is for your body to carry out is job of self rejuvenation and self healing, which is what it was designed to do.
However, while you are taking medications, I am obliged to suggest you consult your doctor and continue taking your medication so as not cause yourself any problems. When moving to natural medicines in the form of foods and herbs, we normally have to continue artificial medications and leave it up to the person who prescribed it to decrease the dose then stop it as they feel appropriate. This is why prevention is much much much much better than cure, especially if you need to go the orthodox medical world for the supposed cure.
Take care and stay healthy

One of the reasons natural alternatives are not considered for serious health conditions is because there is a general belief in the medical community that serious health conditions require intense treatment, something that natural alternatives lack. In some respects this is true. However, the level of intensity of prescribed medication is the main reason they typically produce unpleasant side effects. The body has to adjust to the sudden extreme modification of its chemical construction. In some cases the side effects are temporary; just long enough for the body to adjust. In other cases, the symptoms are ongoing and disrupt the performance of normal daily activities. The former is the reality of Statin drugs, the current king of cholesterol-lowering drugs.
The popularity of Statin drugs (Lipitor, Crestor, Zocor, Pravachol, Lescol, and Mevacor) is associated with the significant cholesterol-lowering effect. The low-density lipids (LDL) decrease and the high-density lipids (HDL) increase. These drugs have shown to lower cholesterol by as much as 50% in some people. Statin drugs have also showed some benefit in individuals with high blood pressure. Oftentimes persons with heart disease will be prescribed a Statin drug to help prevent clogging of the arteries.
There are basically two negative aspects of taking Statin drugs: ongoing side effects and cost. With most medications there are side effects. In addition to headaches, nausea, dizziness, and sleep disturbances, taking Statin drugs has also been associated with a depletion of the heart health cell component coenzyme Q10 and memory loss. If you are placed on Statin drugs, your doctor will monitor your liver to ensure that it is functioning properly. Muscle weakness, depression, and heart failure are also a concern for individuals taking Statin drugs. The economics of taking Statin drugs is another issue that causes concern for the 30 million individuals who are prescribed the medication. If an individual is prescribed a Statin drug they can expect to pay at least $100 a month. If you are fortunate enough to have health insurance it can still cost from $2 to upward of $30 or more a month.
In the ongoing pursuit of an alternative to Statin drugs, a natural alternative, Policosanol, has emerged and shown significant potential in contending with, if not surpassing, the effectiveness of stain drugs. Policosanol is a sugar extract that has the same cholesterol-lowering benefits of Statin drugs. Although Policosanol is derived from sugar, it will not cause a rise in blood sugar level. The good news about taking Policosanol to lower cholesterol is that there are virtually no side effects and it is inexpensive. In the various trials of Policosanol and popular Statin drugs, as little as 10 milligrams has been found to lower cholesterol as much as these drugs. It must be noted, however, that most, if not all trials to date, have been conducted in Cuba. That has caused doubts over the effectiveness of this substance. Controlled clinical trials in this country, if possible, will go a long way to validate the effects of Policosanol.
Hawthorn is another supplement that is valuable for individuals with high cholesterol. The keys to the success of hawthorn are flavonoids and the oligomeric procyanidins (OPCs). The two components work together to lower cholesterol. Flavonoids are antioxidants that improve blood flow to the heart. OPCs excrete a form of nitric oxide that prevents platelets from being “sticky” and lowers blood pressure. The trials using hawthorn have shown no serious side effects. However, some people may experience nausea, headache, and palpitations. Hawthorn may interact negatively with medications that are prescribed for heart conditions. Hawthorn is available in liquid and capsule form. The recommended dosage for heart health is 80 milligrams in the capsule form and one teaspoon three times each day in liquid form. It can take as many as six weeks for hawthorn to reduce cholesterol.
Since herbs are not considered drugs, they are not tested and approved by the Food and Drug Administration. It is imperative that a doctor is consulted before beginning any treatment with herbs. This is especially true if the individual is taking medications. Also realize it could be an uphill battle to get your doctor to give you approval for any supplement treatment as doctors are not normally trained in non-medical treatments.

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that originates in your urinary system. UTIS are not only painful but they are extremely annoying. Serious complications can occur if the infection spreads to your kidneys.
Your urinary system includes your kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra, all of which play an important role in removing wastes from your body. Your kidneys are a pair of bean shaped organs that are located in your upper abdomen and filter the waste from your blood. Tubes known as ureters carry urine from your kidneys to your bladder where it is stored until it exits through the urethra. Any and all of these parts can become infected.
Women are much more likely to experience a UTI. Actually over half of all women will develop a UTI in their lifetime. Some women will experience UTIS multiple times. Thankfully there are many ways to cure the infection and regain proper function of your organs and muscles.
Some people don’t develop any signs at all of having a UTI but common signs and symptoms include a strong and persistent urge to urinate, a burning sensation while urinating, passing frequent but small amounts of liquid, as well as blood in the urine or cloudy urine with a strong odor.
Each different type of UTI may result in specific signs and symptoms depending on which area of your urinary tract has become infected by bacteria. Acute pyelonephritis is the infection of your kidneys and can cause symptoms such as upper back and flank pain, high fever, shaking chills, nausea, or vomiting.
Cystitis is the infection or inflammation of your bladder which may cause pelvic pressure, lower abdominal discomfort, frequent and painful urination, and urine with a strong odor. Urethritis is the infection or inflammation of the urethra and causes a burning sensation when urinating. Men may experience a penile discharge.
Many UTIS occur when bacteria has entered the urinary tract and has began to multiply. Your urinary system has natural ways of fighting infection which are designed to help stop the growth of bacteria and keep out other such microscopic invaders. There are certain factors that will increase your odds of getting a UTI.
Cystitis commonly occurs in women after sexual intercourse. However even girls and women who aren’t sexually active are still susceptible to lower urinary tract infections simply because the anus is located so close to the urethra. In men urethritis is commonly a result of bacteria acquired through sexual contact. Such infections include gonorrhea and Chlamydia.

Is sauna bath a cure to my abnormally high BP?
Maybe, but you should definitely see a doctor before trying to use a sauna for this.
A German University did a study on 40 volunteers with high blood pressure who weren’t being treated with medication. About 60% saw some improvement. About half of the people who saw improvement had their blood pressure return to normal. This leaves about 40% who didn’t see any improvement.
The volunteers visited the sauna at least twice per week, and during each visit would take two 8-10 minute sessions in the sauna, cooling down as needed between sessions.
The sauna used for this was set to a low temperature: 46-60°C or 115-140°F, with 40-50% humidity. Participants were told to cool off using warm showers or in the normal room air. Shock cooling in a cold tub or shower was found to be very dangerous.
If you are taking ANY medication at all, you need to talk to your doctor before taking any kind of heat bath. Many of these are sensitive to heat, others will affect how your body responds to heat.
Researchers in the early 1980’s noticed cultures that consumed a lot of deep cold water fish had very little occurrence of heart disease despite their high fat diet. After much research it was discovered that fish are rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. (1,2) In this article, we will discuss how fish oil is can fight heart disease and how it can help strengthen the heart. Furthermore, we will discuss other benefits of omega 3 fish oil may have on the body and how you can obtain Omega 3 with out eating fish. Also, determine weather the brand of fish oil you are consuming contains toxins or not.
Most of us think that all fats are bad for your health, but in fact there are actually good fats out there. All natural fats are mixed with various kinds of fatty acids. These fatty acids are made up of both short and long chain carbon atoms. These short and long chain atoms look like arms reaching out. If the carbon atoms are bound with hydrogen the fatty acid is considered saturated. (3,4) Long carbon chains that are double bonded to other carbon atom chains are considered unsaturated. Fatty acid chains have at least two or more double bonds are called polyunsaturated. Polyunsaturated fatty acids are classified as linoleic acid when there is a double bond at the sixth carbon atom from the omega end. When this happens the polyunsaturated fatty acid is called an omega-6 fatty acid. (4,5) Linolenic acid has a double bond at the third carbon atom from the omega end and this is called omega 3 fatty acid. Both linoleic and linolenic acid are needed to sustain life. Even though some fatty acids can be manufactured by the body, omega 3 and omega 6 can not be manufactured and must be consumed in our diets.
Linoleic acid is very abundant in American diets, found in commercial baked goods, prepared foods, vegetable oils, and margarine. What most Americans lack is omega 3.
Fish oil contains eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), two components of fish oil derived from linolenic acid. Both EPA and DHA have impressive health benefits. For starters, fatty acids are important for healthy cell membranes. Cell membranes control what enters and exits the cells in our body and protect the cell from danger. Depending on our diets (American diets are high in saturated fats), our cells can be comprised of mostly fatty acids saturated with hydrogen. Saturated fatty acids membranes are usually packed closely together with other cell membranes and becomes rigid and stiff.
If your diet consists of a lot of polyunsaturated fatty acids, your cell membranes will be more flexible and curved in structure and have a more elastic nature. This is because polyunsaturated fatty acids have double bonds between carbon atoms and the carbon atom chains have lots of space between them. When a cell membrane is more flexible it is healthier than the stiff and rigid saturated fatty membrane.
Omega 3 fish oil has been studied in depth in the area of heart disease. With impressive results fish oil has shown to lower the risk of heart attack and reduce blood pressure. One recent study examined men who lived in Finland. These men consumed a fairly high level of EPA and DHA in there diet and experienced a 44% reduction in risk of acute heart attacks compared to men who consumed very little EPA and DHA.
Another study of blood pressure and omega 3 fish oil determined that supplementation with EPA and DHA helped individuals with hypertension. Blood pressure dropped by 6 points during the experiment. (6)
Omega 3 fish oil has shown to reduce other risk factors such as lowering serum triglyceride levels and total cholesterol levels which are both heart attack risk factors. A study showed that postmenopausal women can reduce there risk of heart attack by 27% when taking omega-3 fish oil. (7,8)
EPA and DHA in fish oil can also combat some diseases such as asthma, multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and cancer. Studies have shown that omega 3 fatty acids can help improve asthma in children and increase survival rate in cancer patients. (9,10) Fish oil can also fill nutritional gaps and increase weight in cancer patients. Low levels of DHA have been linked to depression; people who have supplemented omega 3 fish oil have noticed an increase in mood and relief from symptoms of depression. Omega 3 fish oil may even help with mental illnesses like bipolar disorders. One study suggests that fish oil can help with rheumatoid arthritis. (11)
With all these benefits you might be considering fish at every meal. Not all species of fish have high levels of EPA and DHA. Anchovies, Herring, Mackerel, Salmon, Sardines, and Tuna have the highest levels of omega 3 fatty acids per ounce of meat out of any other sea bearing animal.
The people who were initially studied on fish oil were the native Inuit; they consumed more than 4 to 5 grams of EPA each day. That’s equivalent to 1.5 - 3 pounds of fish each day. Even the most avid fish eater might find it hard to eat that much fish each day on a consistent basis.
With all the illegal dumping going in the ocean, one might be worried about the fish that is harvested for omega 3 fish oil could contain the toxic chemicals that are dumped into the ocean every year. Purity in a fish supplement is important. Because of the rising concern about toxins in fish oil, manufacturing companies have refined there fish oil processing plants and now distill the fish oil which removes all of the heavy metals like lead and mercury, and toxic insecticides such as DDT. Look for a supplement that claims its product is made from a 12 step distillation process to remove toxins, dioxins, and furans as well as PCB’s and other contaminants.
A supplement rich in omega 3 fatty acids is the simplest way to attain the proper amounts of EPA and DHA we need in our diets. By taking 1000mgs of omega 3 fish oil one can ward off a wide rang of disease. Look for a fish oil supplement that blends a little vitamin e with the oil which is an antioxidant that preserves the fish oil and prevents it from going rancid. Fish oil supplements provides powerful health benefits and can help those with asthma, multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus, erythematosus, and cancer and is a good choice as a preventive supplement even if you don’t suffer from these diseases. Omega 3 Fish Oil and other great supplements can be found at your local health food store or internet health food store.

Many psychiatrists have placed themselves on top of the pedestal as the last bastion of help; as experts in the field of the mind; as those who know best when it comes to raising children, fixing relationships, handling depression, judging sanity and insanity, educational failures and so much more. They hold degrees from higher institutions to back up these claims and they demand high hourly fees or are highly paid witnesses.
Interestingly enough they hold the distinction of having the highest rate of insurance fraud convictions and the highest rate of suicide amongst their own ranks. A large number of their own families and they themselves suffer from many of their own made-up diseases that they claim they can cure yet this profession still purports that they can help the rest of us.
MEET THE PSYCHIATRISTS.
These are the people who are driving drugs into the schools; who are excusing poor scholastic performance under the guise of “feel-good” education; who routinely bilk healthcare insurers (and thereby the public) of millions of dollars a year in spurious “treatments” which yield demonstrably negative results and in many cases do not occur at all. These are the people who advocate torture in the form of electroshock and who have tasked themselves with reorganizing the way the world educates its young and deals with its “abnormals”. Yet these are also the people who not only cannot agree on definitions of the diseases they claim to be able to treat, but openly admit that they don’t know what they’re doing.
THESE ARE THE PEOPLE who actively seek to wreck our culture and our civilization by legitimizing a viewpoint that treats man as an animal, incapable of improvement and doomed to a life of limitations. In the hands of psychiatrists, Beethoven would have been tranquilized, Rembrandt lobotomized, and Jesus Christ given ECT, put in restraints and locked away, never to see the sky again.
IF YOU ARE WONDERING why the world seems to be coming apart at the seams, why crime, illiteracy, drug abuse and moral decline, depression, suicides, psychotic behaviour, divorce, etc. continue to make headlines daily, and why those who SAY they can do something about mental health CANNOT, you are not alone.
IF YOU WANT to find out about psychiatry, you can’t do much better than listen to the psychiatrists themselves. They will tell you exactly what they think about the human condition, what can be done about it, and how they believe the sane man (and therefore the ideal society) should function.
DON’T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT: Others have come to their senses and know exactly what’s going on. Those few who have the courage to speak out against the majority in their profession deserve attention as well.
“What’s happening in the training of psychiatrists and in the quality of a psychiatrist is that they have become drug pushers. They have … forgotten how to sit down and talk to patients as to what their problems are.” – Walter Afield, psychiatrist, 1994
“… in 40 years, ‘biological psychiatry’ has yet to validate a single psychiatric condition/diagnosis as an abnormality/disease, or as anything ‘neurological’, ‘biological’, ‘chemically imbalanced’, or ‘genetic’.” Dr. Fred A. Baughman Jr., Pediatric Neurologist “Malpractice and Violation of Informed Consent”
“… modern psychiatry has yet to convincingly prove the genetic/biological cause of any single mental illness … Patients [have] been diagnosed with ‘chemical imbalances’ despite the fact that no test exists to support such a claim, and … there is no real conception of what a correct chemical balance would look like.” – David Kaiser, psychiatrist; “Commentary Against Biological Psychiatry” – Psychiatric Times, December 1996
“What do you do when you don’t know what to do? No wonder there are more suicides among psychiatrists than in any other profession.” Psychiatrist R. D. Laing – Wisdom, Madness, and Folly, p. 126
“The way to sell drugs is to sell psychiatric illness.” – Carl Elliot, Bioethicist ; University of Minnesota, 2001
“We don’t have an independent, valid test for ADHD; there are no data to indicate that ADHD is due to a brain malfunction … and finally, after years of clinical research and experience with ADHD, our knowledge about the cause or causes of ADHD remains speculative.” – National Institute of Health; Consensus Conference on the Diagnosis; and Treatment of ADHD, 1998
“The field of mental health is highly subjective, capricious, and dominated by whims, mythologies, and public relations. In many ways it is a pop culture with endless fads but with no real substance.” Dr. Walter Fisher – Assistant Superintendent, Elgin State Hospital – Power, Greed, and Stupidity in the Mental Health Racket
“The young and the old are defenseless against relatives who want to get rid of them by casting them into the role of mental patient, and against psychiatrists whose livelihood depends on defining them as mentally ill.” – Thomas Szasz, psychiatrist ; Cruel Compassion, 1994
The headlines of today’s newspapers tell tales of people driven to acts that can only be termed insane: students who come to school armed for mayhem, workers who blaze away at their fellows, killers stalking innocent victims for no reason at all, mothers who kill their innocent children.
But if these people are driven to madness, who’s doing the driving? Digging deeper into the scene, one finds time and again evidence of psychiatrists hard at work, causing the very insanity that they claim to be able to treat. Evidence: Adolf Hitler (yes… he was being treated by psychiatry BEFORE the Holocaust!); Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, George Washington (yes, he too died at the hands of psychiatric treatment!), Ernest Hemingway, John Hinckley (prior to shooting John Lennon!), Kip Kinkel, Columbine shooters, Andrea Yates, Shawn Cooper, and the list can go on for miles… More than 80% of suicides are PRECEDED by the use of psychiatric type treatments (drugs, therapy, etc.).
Why am I writing this article now? Because I’m frustrated of having to clean up and educate the very people that so many psychs have ruined. And make no mistake about it… it’s virtually everyone… we have become a nation of fast fixes, “no responsibility”, “spectators to life”, lacking a true view of ourselves as spiritual beings, humanoids! We view our bodies as “who we are” instead of the thing separate from us that we are in control of. We look for sensations and pleasures. We get our education from the TV commercials about what drugs to tell our doctors we want to ingest that will hopefully change our lives… instead of changing our lifestyles! There is not one person who has not been influenced by psychiatric propaganda. (except the few who have risen above it and are willing to step outside the box and get educated.
The side effects of anti-depressants and drugs like Ritalin, Adderall, Zoloft, Prozac, etc. will fill pages: suicide ideology, blocks the production of hormones, depression, headaches, addiction, high blood pressure, weight gain, impotence, sleep disturbances, itching, dry mouth, dizziness, gastritis, and the list goes on and on… These drugs do more damage and have yet to CURE anyone of the so-called mental diseases.
Our recent culture has been marred greatly by the underhanded dealings of psychiatrists… but as you noticed earlier in this article… there are a few brave souls out there within that profession who have taken a stand against their own group.
You as a consumer or natural health practitioner/consultant simply do not have to bow down to their domination any longer. There are solutions out there that are natural and work. Sure… you may be in such a mess right now that you still want that quick fix… I understand. Now let me point something out to you… there is not A PILL that will handle your life for you. Only YOU can handle your own life.
There is no such thing as ADD or ADHD. There is no disease of Alcoholism. There is no disease of being BI-POLAR. There is no disease of being Manic-Depressed. YES, there are SYMPTOMS! That I know. But they are NOT diseases that need mind altering addictive drugs… those drugs CURE NOTHING! Never have, never will. And YES… fixing the problem takes work.
I understand that not everyone reading this or everyone out there will rise to the occasion and do what they have to do to help themselves reach health and happiness. I understand that I might step on the toes of some doctors. I understand that some of you simply still want the quick fix. But for those of you who are determined to get your life back, determined to do something about it, determined to not live a life drugged, dulled, and numbed… well… you are the ones we in the natural health field want to help.
DESPITE ALL that the psychiatrists and their cohorts would have you believe, remember that there is hope. No one is doomed to a life bound by drugs, shock, psychosurgery, or worse. No society or individual is doomed to the degradation of going to “Hell in a hand-basket”. Much can be done to help the individual naturally. I urge all doctors to learn the truth and quite treating symptoms alone. I urge all patients to sit up, take notice that continuing to do the same thing over and over again simply will not result in a change! Get educated. Become pro-active. Take control of your health and find a natural health practitioner that will assist you in preventing and rebuilding.

This article discusses preventative measures that can be taken to lessen your likelihood of incurring high blood pressure. Also, treatments are discussed that may apply if you have already been diagnosed as having this disease.
High blood pressure treatment becomes a necessity once your blood pressure goes over the average for an adult which is in the area of 140/90, keeping in mind a persons age, sex and medical history
Treatment can involve changes in lifestyle and diet or medications. Doctors most often recommend that patients make positive modifications in their lives as the first step in high blood pressure treatment.
For those who have not as yet had a problem with this disease, eating plenty of fruits, vegetables is encouraged as is consuming low-fat and fat-free dairy products. A diet such as this contains rich quantities of calcium, magnesium, protein and potassium while also being low in saturated fat, overall fat and cholesterol
Blood pressure in some individuals can be lowered by decreasing how much salt (or sodium) they consume on a daily basis. This simply means eating fewer foods that are salty and not adding any table salt to food for flavoring purposes.
High blood pressure treatment in regards to lifestyle changes frowns on excessive drinking. Drinking more than one ounce of pure alcohol or what constitutes as two drinks a day for males and one drink daily for females is likely to elevate blood pressure. Drink less per day or limit yourself to only a couple of drinks per week
Quitting smoking is also advisable as smoking weakens the circulatory system and constricts blood flow.
Incorporating physical activity into your life on a daily basis is a lifestyle change that can tremendously lower high blood pressure as can losing weight. Obesity is a risk factor for both men and women when it comes to both high blood pressure as well as other diseases of the circulatory system.
Sometimes the aforementioned types of lifestyle high blood pressure treatment options are not sufficient to lower blood pressure enough to normalize it. In that case doctors must introduce their patients to another category of treatment, which is forms of medication.
There are different kinds of high blood pressure medication that can be prescribed for patients. They include two major groups- diuretics and beta-blockers. Diuretics get rid of excess sodium and fluids from the body while beta-blockers decrease the rate at which the heart beats and also reduce the amount of blood that is circulated from the heart.
Other medications commonly prescribed for high blood pressure are angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE), angiotensin II receptor blockers and calcium channel blockers (also known as calcium antagonists). There is also another type of medication known as sympathetic nerve inhibitors. The last type of medicinal treatment is a category of drugs known as vasodilators.

I have what the women I date call “large” testicles. About two years ago, I saw a doctor and he had my testosterone levels tested. I have very high testosterone. He prescribed something to lower it to a more normal level, but the medication made me sick.
If you must know the rest of my “tackle” is average. Also I do not have children. I do not like children all that much.
1. I am very tall, and strong.
2. I have a very deep voice.
3. I am 43, but everyone thinks I am in my early 30’s.
4. My girlfriend says I sweat out pheromones that make her crazy (in a good way).
5. High sex drive.
6. Mood swings, and aggressiveness (Not violent).
7. Abnormally fast hair growth (everyplace).
8. Crazy swings in weight.
9. Top number on my blood pressure is always high, but bottom number is normal.
10. Ringing in the ears.
11. Huge appetite.
12. I frequently injure myself in the testicles (during sports) because they are in the way.
Do you have these problems? What others? What did you do? Natural cures are good!
Due to my crappy insurance I can not see a doctor until January.
I have the same problem. I do not know if I have high testosterone.
True I look very young for my age. I think that is because I have no children.
I do not have any negative effects. I do not have ringing in the ears. Did you not say in another question you are in the military? Maybe that is why you have ringing in the ears.
