What foods should my husband cut out to lower his high blood pressure
I’ve heard that garlic lowers blood pressure. The taste is icky and you can buy one of those capsules with garlic oil in it (Like the Seven seas ones). It really works. My Mom makes my Dad take those.
You might want to decrease his salt intake. This includes soups and such.
My dad was recently not allowed to donate blood because, when he went onto the bus, they said his blood pressure was high. However, when he went to the doctor the next day, he said his blood pressure was fine. I know it may have varied between the two days, though it seems unlikely. This made me wonder, do blood donation centers have stricter limitations on what they accept from donors than what a doctor would consider to be in the healthy range? I know that they require iron levels above what is considered healthy, so does this extend to blood pressure as well?
Current FDA guidelines require that systolic BP measure less than 180 mmHg and diastolic measure less than 100 mmHg for volunteer blood donation. These readings are generally less restrictive than what most physicians consider acceptable. There are many reasons to explain the transient increase in blood pressure. Stress associated with driving, work, etc cold have increased his readings. Also, many people experience "white coat hypertension"; their BP increases in anticipation of a needle stick or physical exam. Most collection facilities will allow the donor to relax for a while and retake the readings. Thank your father for his kindness in attempting to donate, and please ask him to try again.
I have major high blood pressure around 180/110 and I take 4 BP pills. I was told by my doctor to purchase a home blood pressure monitor in order to check my blood pressure 3 times per day.
What is the best recommended blood pressure on the market? I need a blood pressure really accurate.
My daughter also has high blood pressure and she tried several blood pressure devices. So far I think that the best home blood pressure is the : Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor
With 901 reviews on amazon and close to 5 stars you can’t go wrong. My daughter got it since last year and her readings are as accurate that what she gets from the doctor office.
As some of you know, I am an RN, who now does health counseling and coaching by phone. I frequently speak to people who choose not to take the medications prescribed to them for conditions like high blood pressure and high cholesterol, preferring to take natural/herbal remedies or supplements. Although I am certainly more knowledgeable about Western medicine, I have no problem with other treatments, wherever they may originate, as long as they actually work. I am getting more familiar with certain substances, like cinnamon and red rice yeast (or maybe it’s red yeast rice?), but recently had a patient sing the praises of food-grade diatomaceous earth, for either blood pressure or cholesterol treatment. Does anyone have any knowledge of this, used to treat medical conditions? I did some online searching, but mostly found gardening or insect control info, and the food-grade info was limited to sites that sold the stuff, so not exactly unbiased material.
Thanks,
Katherine
While looking for a ‘natural’ way of flea and parasite control, I’ve been doing a pretty ‘in depth’ study of the ‘food grade’ diatomaceous earth.
For ingestion by either human or animal, the FOOD GRADE is the most important thing to remember here. There are ‘lesser’ grades for treating the lawn, treating building perimeters and for swimming pool filters.
Now, I’m a ‘naturalist’, more interested in the ‘prevention’ rather the ‘chemical cures’ of today’s medicine. Just seeing the list of ’side effects’ listed on each drug on the market is frightening.
I’ve been really impressed with the pureness of diatomaceous earth…and what I’ve found really makes sense.
WHAT IF diseases like cancer are actually the result of some type of parasite infestation? It’s possible, seeing the quality of the foods we buy and the ‘recalls’ of beef and other products that are found to be unfit, unhealthy or containing salmonella, melamine or other harmful ingredients…both sickening and killing people and pets…
The ‘food grade’ diatomaceous earth is a pure and natural product of the sea…ground fossils. Although, to the touch, it feels like a very soft powder, to the insect or parasite, it is like ‘walking/crawling over ground glass’. It cuts into their skin and kills them.
Considering the cost of Frontline for flea/tick control on our cats and dog…$122.00…(which made 5 of my pets extremely sick for 2 days) and the cost of insect control for lawns and the veggie garden…the DE is a bargain. I just received an order, 2, 5 lb. bags for $28. including shipping.
I have been ‘powdering’ the cats and dog (carpet and pet bedding) and the flea population is nearly zero. The ‘bonus’ is, when the cats ‘groom’ they are ingesting it and being cleansed of any parasites like tapeworm, etc.
Large cattle farms add DE to their grain/feed, not only keeping the feed free of insects but curing any internal problems caused by fly eggs, etc.
Personally, I haven’t started sprinkling it on my oatmeal yet…LOL…but, with a little more research, I might <:O)
It may be a ’stretch’ to say ingesting DE will control blood pressure and/or cholesterol UNLESS it can be proven that these health issues can be traced back to parasite infestation in the blood stream, affecting the heart, clogging and narrowing the arteries, etc. What about the possibility of parasites being responsible for Alzheimers and ADHD ????
It’s a very interesting study and the possibility of DE being a great preventive and cure is pretty high, but I’d like to see more research done on it, because it really makes a lot of sense. <:O) Helen
I am patient of high blood pressure for the last 22 years and now it has been observed that i have cyst in my left kidney..I shall thank , if someone can suggest the remedy either nature cure or ayurvedic or homeopath and suggest good diet to keep kidneys healthy..I am pure veg no drink, no smoke.
Why do you want to treat it when it doesn’t bother you?
Kidney cysts dont need any treatment unless they are very large and cause problems. Incidentally, they can’t be cured with medicines, only operation or removing the fluid with a needle (by a doctor) will give a cure.
